I wonder if the rioters at the Capital (or anyone who riots and acts out in an animalistic way for any cause) would have turned out differently if someone had loved them more. It occurs to me that they should have been given a participation trophy in their youth as acknowledgment of how hard they tried, despite not being in 1st place. How many feel like an absolute failure in general or like something has held them back? Did someone fail to acknowledge and encourage them as a child? I wonder if they had abusive fathers, toxic mothers, or an absent parent altogether? I wonder if there is a history of substance abuse or alcoholism that’s delayed their ability to get ahead or even launch. I am convinced they would be less angry if they didn’t feel like they struggled to make ends meet. Liveable wages, Healthcare, and a quality education would have likely offered them a happier existence and less to be angry about. I wonder how much they would benefit from mental health care, dental care, vision, and hearing insurance that didn’t put them in bankruptcy? Are they food insecure or were they food insecure as a child?
The government is disfunctional but acting out by wearing costumes, painting your face, forced entry, beating anyone in your way, destroying things, shitting in public and writing with your own poop, theft and carrying weapons is far more questionable. No one gets angry to the point of irrational violence unless they are irrationally angry inside. You have to feel deep loss, disconnect, and despair to resort to following a horrible human being because he feels like your only hope.
Who could blame any human being for acting irrationally when they are in such despair? Perhaps this is our common ground, America. The behavior is deplorable, regardless of what extreme belief encouraged it. The rioters at the Capital are angry that their candidate lost so they rationalize violence and cry the election was stolen. There were people there exercising their 1st Amendment rights peacefully that day too and they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don’t have to agree with them to acknowledge their rights and I can’t imagine what it was like for them that day. George Floyd was murdered by police and communities around the nation came together to protest peacefully against police brutality. There were incidents of extremist violence and that meant some people were in the wrong place at the wrong time too. A line of mothers with locked arms were sprayed by the police with rubber bullets and tear gas. I can’t imagine what it was like for them that day.
The common denominator is pain and anger. That tells me that those of us who continue to fight for a better overall quality of life for everyone have it right. Everyone needs resources, a place to call home, a job that pays them enough to eat, and an opportunity to excel.
We can talk about politics all day long and get nowhere unless we understand. The federal government is a problem, this is true. It’s also true that all 50 states have different leadership and policies. Some of the poorest and worst performing states have been electing the same senators for 47 years and they get angry at the guy who changes his seat every 4-8 years. He is a symptom of the problem. Learn about how it works, Vote your best interest locally. Find candidates who write policies that contribute to your quality of life. I agree 100% that we need term limits but the people do have control. Vote in a new face with a new idea and get rid of people over 80 who’ve been there 40 years. It is ours to control. What is happening in your next local election? Set your own term limits.
Every human in this country deserves a chance and I’m going to to keep fighting hard for that! My tax dollars need to be spent more effectively, not on walls and weapons ❤️
