I no longer wonder what Katie Farmer at BNSF Railway will do. It’s been 7 months since I wrote this and she ignored it. Her corporation, and all other Class 1 railroads have decided they are too big to negotiate with the crews that make them record profits. The government has to get involved.
Despite being scrutinized by the STB, Shippers, and employees, the railroad she runs (and all class 1’s) continues to fail their employees and the shippers they service. America is suffering the consequences of your inaction, Katie. We are paying inflated prices, much due to your greedy decisions, laying off skilled labor to line your pockets.
No raise in 3 years. Mass resignation. New hires bailing out of new hire classes because your expectations are asinine. 3 mile long trains, blocking crossings and causing safety hazards throughout American communities. Your attempt to eliminate conductors and leave an engineer to operate your rolling bombs alone, and with little rest. What could go wrong with all that mess?
Good job, Katie! You proved that your title is big, your pockets are fat, and your soul is empty. Either that, or you have no influence at all. You have ignored the plea of other mothers, hoping you could be more human. That alone is deplorable.
I have lost hope. You proved that you love money more than people. I get it now. Your Class 1 Railroad, and the others like it, don’t run without the men and women who operate. You’ve chosen to ignore them, the people who make you rich. You are ignoring them and hoarding wealth. You could take steps to make this better but you don’t. That’s cowardly. Just cowardly. You’re leaving one hell of a legacy, Katie! It’s nothing to be proud of.
Railroad Crews deserve a fair contract and a huge raise. America deserves an apology for your negligence, but I won’t hold my breath. You’ll just stay sheltered, counting your millions and disregarding others.
